Prevention Is Better Than Cure

Food hygiene is the practice of properly cooking, cleaning food to avoiding cross-contamination and prevent the spread of bacteria in food.
Avoiding cross-contamination between raw and ready-to-eat food is one of the most important aspects of food hygiene. Separate knives and cutting boards must be used for the different foods. Raw food must be stored below other foods in the refrigerator to prevent drips that could contain bacteria. Food must be chilled to proper temperature at all times and must be cooked to a temperature that kills bacteria. Disinfecting food preparation areas and cleaning used equipment also are important food hygiene practices.
Why is food hygiene so important?
Good food hygiene is essential to ensure that the food you and your family eats is safe. Poor hygiene procedures in your home can put you at risk. Harmful germs that cause food poisoning and can spread very easily, so you need to make sure that you do everything you can to prevent this. Food poisoning can lead to serious illness, even death, especially among the very young, the very old and ill people, who are particularly at risk from food poisoning.
How can you prevent your food from being contaminated?
There are four main defences against the growth and spread of germs:
·         Ensuring food areas are clean and good standards of personal hygiene aremaintained.
·         Cooking foods thoroughly
·         Keeping food at the right temperature
·         Preventing cross-contamination
What happens when you don’t maintain food hygiene?
When you don’t maintain good hygiene there are high amount of chances for the food to get contaminated and spread food borne diseases. Bacteria and viruses can be present in contaminated food which can cause food poisoning. Food poisoning can lead to gastroenteritis and dehydration, or potentially even more serious health problems such as blood poisoning and kidney failure.Food poisoning can be serious in babies, children, older people and pregnant women because these people have a weaker immune system.
How can you ensure food safety?
By practicing hygiene prior to handling food and ensuring that all utensils and surfaces are clean, food contamination can be prevented.Food safety also requires that food is cooked  and stored at a safe temperature. The best way to ensure that food is safely stored is to allow food to thaw in a refrigerator. By always using clean utensils and surfaces that haven't touched other food items, the risk of cross contamination can be greatly reduced.

Save Yourself From Harmful Organisms

Disinfectants are antimicrobial agents that are applied to the surface of non-living objects to destroy microorganisms that are living on the objects.
Disinfection does not necessarily kill all microorganisms; it is less effective than sterilization. They work by destroying the cell wall of microbes or interfering with the metabolism. They are frequently used in hospitals, dental surgeries, kitchens, and bathrooms to kill infectious organisms.
PROPERTIES
A perfect disinfectant offers complete and full microbiological sterilization, without harming humans and useful form of life which are noncorrosive. However, most disinfectants are also, by nature, potentially harmful to humans or animals. Most modern household disinfectants contain Bitrex, an exceptionally bitter substance added to discourage ingestion, as a safety measure. Those that are used indoors should never be mixed with other cleaning products as chemical reactions can occur.
The choice of disinfectant to be used depends on the particular situation. Some disinfectants have a wide spectrum while others kill a smaller range of disease-causing organisms.
TYPES OF DISINFECTANTS
·         Air disinfectants are typically chemical substances capable of disinfecting microorganisms suspended in the air. An air disinfectant must be dispersed either as an aerosol or vapour at a sufficient concentration in the air to cause the number of viable infectious microorganisms to be significantly reduced.
·         Alcohol and alcohol plus Quaternary ammonium cation based compounds comprise a class of proven surface sanitizers and disinfectants. The efficacy of alcohol is enhanced when in solution with the wetting agent.
·         Aldehydes, such as formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde, have a wide micro biocidal activity and are sporicidal and fungicidal. They are partly inactivated by organic matter and have slight residual activity.
·         Oxidizing agents act by oxidizing the cell membrane of microorganisms, which results in loss of structure and leads to cell lysis and death. A large number of disinfectants operate in this way. Chlorine and oxygen are strong oxidizers.
APPLICATIONS
Disinfectants are important chemicals used for a variety of purposes. Within homes, they are used to kill microorganisms which can grow in places such as the kitchen or the bathroom. They are widely used within the medical establishment, hospitals, health care centres and doctors' offices for purposes of killing different types of germs which may cause different kind of diseases.
Disinfectants can kill germs and microorganisms which may not be seen with the naked eye. For instance, Phenolic types of disinfectants are very good for killing bacteria. They are considered as general purpose disinfectants, and can kill organic matter.

The dos and don’ts of cleaning windows

The best time to clean your window is when it gets dirty. However, not everyone has the luxury of time and energy to clean their home windows every time a speck of dust settles on the panes. Thus, realistically it is viable to clean windows when you schedule your monthly house cleaning.
Climate, dust, location and other external factors affect the amount of dirt that is lodged on the windows. You need to keep a vigilant eye on the amount of dirt accumulated and you should clean the windows at timely intervals to keep the winds from clouding up due to extensive dirt. Here are a list of dos and don’t you have to follow when cleaning windows.
The Dos
Have proper cleaning equipment. This includes a squeegee/ soft wash cloth, cleaning chemicals and plenty of water. This is the basic requirements, but you can also invest in professional grade window cleaning equipment to help give your windows an expert cleaning every time.
The generally accepted method of cleaning windows is to clean the window with a mild solution first, then use a stronger solution to get rid of touch stains. You can either use home made window cleaning solutions made of vinegar, water and soap, or you can opt for a commercial window cleaning solution.
In case of tough stains, you can soak a piece of newspaper in the strong solution, apply it on the stained part and wait for a few minutes before cleaning the stain.

The don’ts
Avoid strong chemicals such as bleaches, strong soaps, grease remover etc. These do more harm than good for your windows.
Do not use abrasive materials such as steel wool to remove stains. Make sure to soak the satin in the cleaning chemical before wiping the surface gently with a soft cloth or a squeegee.

Different types of industrial floor cleaning machines

Industrial floor cleaning equipment have undergone a massive overhaul in the recent past, thanks to the advancements in the technology. These machines have become user friendly and energy efficient, thus making them suitable for regular use. There are two main types of floor cleaning machines. They are-
·         Ride on scrubbers: These scrubbers are built for larger and tougher cleaning jobs. They have a seating arrangement over the large scrubbing mechanism, which allows you to ride the scrubber, making it easy to clean large facilities with relative ease. These scrubbers are free from electrical cords, however, they operate on batteries or fuel engines. These machines are extremely nimble and can be used to clean efficiently.
·         Walk behind scrubbers: These are the most commonly used scrubbers, and are used extensively for commercial and domestic purposes. They have smaller scrubbing./ cleaning units attached to a handle which is used to manoeuvre the scrubbers. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and are traditionally used to clean smaller areas. These machines are usually operated by electricity and consume less power as well. Owing to their small size, they can be easily used to clean nooks and crannies of the facility with ease.
